Work Preparation

Wes' friend in Bangkok, Tos, generously offered us free accommodation for another short stay. We came to Bangkok for Wes to make work clothes in preparation to return to work. Bangkok has excellent tailors and prices are low. The trick is to find someone who can measure properly. I recommend Vijay at Ambassador & Smart Fashion at 28-28/1 Sukhumvit Soi 19 which is near Asoke BTS / Sukhumvit MRT stations. A week later, Wes had 3 suits and 5 shirts he was happy with. In Bangkok beware of the discount tailor scams. Tailors advertize anywhere from US$169 - $220 for 3 suits, 3 shirts, and 3 ties. It sounds good until they show the rubbish you get for that price, then immedately launch into the "more expensive packages" if you're interested in looking presentable. Just telephone Vijay at +66-(0)2-253-2993 and start with quality.

(note added on 27 June 2006: the quality and professionalism of Ambassador & Smart Fashion is no longer suitable for recommendation. I apologize to anyone who took my advice to visit Ambassador over the past year.)

Also in Bangkok is our favorite hospital, Bumrungrad. We scheduled to have medical checks, dental checks, and Wes renewed his expired vaccinations. I said it on earlier web pages, but go see Bumrungrad for yourself. It must be in the top 0.1% of hospitals in the world. If considering cost, Bumrungrad must be the very top hospital in the world.

Through his former boss, Wes already has a scheduled telephone interview with one US company while in Bangkok. Another lead also came in by email from Lakshmana whom Wes used to work with in Singapore. Just by letting a few people know that he's interested in returning to work, Wes had interviews with 2 companies.

Both companies offered to move to the next step in Singapore on the week of Nov 18. Masami went ahead to Japan and the US to start picking up stuff we left scattered across the world. Wes stayed in Bangkok for an additional week until Nov 16.

The extra week in Bangkok was good. Wes helped a webpage client, Morn, fix up changes to her webpage http://www.keptshop.com. The following week, Wes was off to Singapore in the hopes of landing a job.
